Makers of Ergonomic Walking Aids that Transform Mobility
Mobi, LLC is the designer and manufacturer of Mobilegs, next-generation ergonomic crutches that are transforming the way the world thinks about mobility. The company was founded in 2008 by Jeff Weber, an award-winning designer of iconic ergonomic products such as the Herman Miller Aeron Chair, and successful entrepreneur John White.
Weber and White’s vision of creating patient-friendly crutches and other mobility aids have been extremely well received by the health care and business communities. Mobi has won numerous design awards and been featured in Popular Science and Entrepreneur magazines, on FOX TV’s “So You Think You Can Dance,” and many other media venues.
In late 2012, Mobi was chosen as a Global Hot 100 enterprise by the World Summit on Innovation & Entrepreneurship (THEWSIE), a selected group of individuals with the entrepreneurial will, innovation skills, and the achievements to have made change in business and society.
Since being introduced to the market in 2010, Mobilegs have rapidly gained the attention of consumers and many leading hospitals, clinics, surgery centers and urgent care centers throughout the U.S.
The Path to Ergonomic Crutches and More Satisfied Patients
It’s been said that necessity is the mother of invention.
The vision behind Mobilegs was born when designer Jeff Weber had suffered a broken heel and quickly discovered just how uncomfortable and awkward a pair of traditional walking crutches could be.
He searched for other alternatives and was disappointed by what he found. Determined to come up with a patient-friendly crutch, he decided to design his own, from a decidedly humanistic point of view. Weber and his product team embarked on a two-year period of product research and development. As a first step, he broke the design of the crutch into its individual components. He then studied the relationship between these components and the problems cited by patients and health care professionals.
He and his team observed patients as they used traditional crutches and gathered their feedback on the problems they were having. Drawing on his knowledge of human anatomy and his professional experience of designing products that support the human body in space, he developed a series of prototypes of a more patient-friendly crutch and began testing them with patient groups.
His vision captured the imagination of White, who was looking for just such a product to bring to market. In fact, it did not take long for the two to recognize the urgent need for patient-friendly mobility aids, from ergonomic crutches, to canes, walkers and beyond.
After two years of continuous design, testing and refinement, Mobi introduced Mobilegs, an ergonomic, technologically advanced crutch designed to make crutch walking easier, less painful and safer for patients. Mobilegs immediately captured the attention of many leading healthcare professionals, and is now being adopted by orthopedic clinics, urgent care clinics, hospitals throughout the U.S.A.Mobi has already been awarded 4 patents (including U.S. 7,717,123; U.S. 7,926,498; U.S. 7,926,499; and U.S. 8,342,196) by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for its innovative technology. Additional patents are pending.
